Real-time translated conversation made possible by Microsoft Research team
First time in the history of technology features so seen in the movies are coming to real life practically. We all saw Universal Translator in Star Trek but all thought of it as imagination but Microsoft Research team made it possible and even demoed it yesterday at Inaugural Code Conference. Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella had a 1 hour conversation with Re/code’s Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg in California.
Watch the video where Gurdeep Pall, Corporate Vice President of Skype and Lync at Microsoft showed the demo of Cross-Lingual Conversation in Real Time on Skype where he talked with one of his friend Dian. Both of them had a real-time translation of German-English-German conversation over Skype.
This a huge breakthrough in the field of Speech recognition, Language translation and Cross-Lingual conversation. This is the first time when Microsoft demoed the Skype Translator app publicly. Skype Translator app will be available for Windows 8 users before the end of 2014. If you are not a user of Skype then I must say that Skype is the must have app for any user. And now when this Cross-Lingual Conversation in real-time is in our reach, it’ll bridge the geographical and language gap around the world.
