Raspberry Pi 3 vs Pi 2, its technical specifications & unboxing

Raspberry Pi 3 Model B is the fastest & most powerful Raspberry Pi available today and even from its predecessors. Pi 3 is build on the Next Generation QUAD Core Broadcom BCM2837 64bit processor with super-fast 1.2 GHz of processing speed whereas it was 900 MHz on Raspberry Pi 2. Major limitation of the Raspberry Pi 3’s predecessors was the ability of connecting external devices without using an additional external power supply. But in this next-gen Pi it has been removed by improving it’s switched power source which now able to handle up to 2.5A. Another major breakthrough is inclusion of integrated 802.11n wireless LAN and Bluetooth 4.1 in addition with complete compatibility with Raspberry Pi 1 and 2. Apart from this every other tech specs is almost identical as of the predecessors with only change of location of onboard LEDs.

Added features to Pi 3 over Pi 2:

  • Next Generation Broadcom BCM2837 64Bit Quad Core Processor
  • Increased Processor speed from 900MHz on Pi 2 to 1.2Ghz
  • Integrated 802.11n wireless LAN using BCM43438 wifi chipset
  • Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) on board (version 4.1)
  • Upgraded switched power source up to 2.5 Amps (able to power even more powerful devices over USB ports)

Other technical specification is same as Pi 2:

  • 40 pin extended GPIO
  • 4 x USB 2 ports
  • 4 pole Stereo output and Composite video port
  • Full size HDMI output
  • CSI camera port for connecting the Raspberry Pi camera
  • DSI display port for connecting the Raspberry Pi touch screen display
  • Micro SD port for loading your operating system and storing data
  • Form factor is same as the Pi 2 Model B with only difference of the location of the on-board LEDs
